Iverson Dental Celebrates 20-Year Anniversary
in Ogden Valley
Ogden Valley News, October 2008
Iverson Dental is celebrating their 20-year anniversary. Dr. Vern Iverson began practicing in August 1988 after graduating from Creighton Dental School. He grew up in Brigham City and had always dreamed of practicing in a small town, so when the opportunity to practice in Huntsville became available he and his wife Kim jumped at the chance. Reflecting on the practice’s beginnings, “It was such a tiny old, building—only 400 sq. ft. with two very old dental chairs. Quite frequently we had to clean the nose prints off the front window from visitors looking in to see if it really was an old pioneer dental office. (The equipment was pretty darned old—but not quite that old!) It was kind of fun at times when there were patients in both chairs and others out in the waiting room who knew each other. The conversation would just be flying and there was much fun and laughter. In addition, periodically, some of the neighbors walking by would stop in to just say hello and share the latest joke.”
As the practice grew, it also grew out of the space in the old Huntsville office. After nearly eight years in Huntsville, a “new” office was built in Eden at its present location. Despite the disadvantages of working in such a small space with such old equipment, the Iversons reminisce, saying that they sometimes miss the cozy, intimate feeling of the old Huntsville office.
Dr. Vern says that he really enjoys performing all aspects of dentistry—from preventative procedures, fillings, crown and bridges, implants, surgery, and dental sedation. Since it’s important to keep up with changing technology, he spends at least 1 to 2 hours each night reading and studying the latest professional dental and medical journals, and states that he enjoys attending every continuing education course he possibly can. Kim adds, “Unlike some of his colleagues, he doesn’t just sign up for the courses, he attends every single minute of them!”
“Iverson Dental has been so blessed to have the absolute best dental staff!” comments Vern and Kim. “Something that is truly amazing is how long some of our staff members have been with us. Sue Hoffman has been an assistant for 19 years and Jeni Jordan has been the front desk/office manager for 18 years. These two are awesome, and have truly made the practice what it is today. With all the dental experience they now have, they could teach their own courses on how to run a dental practice!”
Kim Iverson has also worked as a dental hygienist at the office with her husband, full- and part-time, for the last 20 years. Over the years, other registered dental hygienists have been added. Currently Christine Barker, Lindee Wilcox, and Jenn Wold are working with Iverson Dental with a total of 17 years of experience between them. “They are top-notch clinicians who treat periodontal disease, and aren’t content to just ‘clean teeth.’ They are great educators and work hard to teach all their patients about the ‘mouth-body connection,’ and the importance of good dental health for optimal physical health.”
Iverson Dental has had other staff members work for a period of time, mostly Ogden Valley residents, who have helped the practice grow by sharing their skills and abilities. Current staff members include Corrina Huddle as the front desk/appointment coordinator, and Jenna Christensen and Karen Peterson as chairside assistants. “They have all been well-trained and prepared to jump in and work in such a busy office. Dr. Paul Larsen joined the practice nearly two years ago. He already had five years of experience in his own practice in Bountiful, and is a marvelous addition to our practice and the Ogden Valley,” Dr. Iverson states.
“The Iverson Dental staff enjoys spending time with each other even outside the office, and are truly friends and family.”
The Iversons add, “If you were to ask what is enjoyed most about working at Iverson Dental, it has been the opportunity of getting to know and develop friendships with all the wonderful people of Ogden Valley. It is has been such a blessing to be able to work closely with, and serve our friends and neighbors. Seeing patients as they come into the office for treatment is great, but seeing them at the Valley Market, supporting them at their athletic events, and grabbing a bite to eat at one of the local restaurants is a bonus! How rewarding it is, especially to go to a local event and see the elementary school–age children so excited to see the ‘dentist and his helper’ who came to their school to teach them about taking care of their teeth.”
Dr. Iverson also adds that living and working in Ogden Valley has been a dream come true for him and his wife. “We feel very blessed to have served, for the past 20 years, the people who live here. With Dr. Paul Larsen’s help, Iverson Dental hopes to be serving the great people of this valley for at least another 20!”
